DENISE JAQUES
CONTEMPORARY MOSAICS
Denise Jaques is a contemporary mixed-media mosaic artist whose practice is driven by material exploration and process-led experimentation. Guided by the physical properties of each material, she embraces unpredictability while maintaining a rigorous commitment to craftsmanship.
Pushing the boundaries of contemporary mosaic, Denise incorporates contrasting reflective surfaces and unconventional materials to challenge traditional expectations of her craft.
Through distortion, fragmentation, and shifting reflections, her work invites viewers to question perception, movement, and the instability of surface and form. Responsive to light, environment, and the presence of the viewer, her mosaics exist in a constant state of visual flux.

Uncommon Ground
Shimmering mosaics exploring an uncommon ground through the research of woven structures and distorted reflections. Combining mirror fragments and gilded glass to create shifting perspectives, tactile depth, and fractured, luminous surfaces of light.
Warp + Weft
Contemporary mosaics of heavily textured black ceramic threads, mirrored surfaces, and distressed gilded and golden glass, woven together to fracture light and create tactile depth and reflection.
Kintsugi Slate
Decorative mosaic mirror panels composed of broken slate fragments, reassembled with gold mosaic, mirrored surfaces, and ceramic elements, referencing the Japanese practice of kintsugi.
Hydra Bubbles
Exploring material and process as a response to constellations. Flowing, undulating landscapes emerge through an expanded mixed-media mosaic practice, pushing the boundaries of surface, rhythm, and celestial reference.
Flow
Found and natural materials contrast with shimmering glass and reflective surfaces encourage light to dance across fractured textures, revealing continuous flowing motion to create highly complex mixed media mosaic sculptures and decorative panels.
Alchemy
Mixed media mosaics exploring the alchemy between black clay and molten glass.
Barrels
Repurposed rusted barrel rings form weathered frames for mixed-media mosaics. The Barrel series is guided by material exploration and process-led experimentation, embracing unpredictability while remaining grounded in craftsmanship.
